History

Clothes To Kids, Inc. was founded in 2002 by Jode Eye and Marie McClung in Pinellas County, Florida.  Through their volunteer work with school-aged children, they recognized that children without adequate clothing were filled with embarrassment and shame.  Research indicates that many children that come to school without adequate clothing and shoes suffer from low self-esteem, poor social skills and lack of concentration in school.    As a volunteer in the schools in Colorado, Gail Cerny also noticed the number of children without proper clothing.  Through a mutual friend, she had visited the Clothes To Kids store in Florida in January of 2007.   She joined forces with Joyce Meyers, Lesa Butler and Mary Overington and by January 2008, Clothes To Kids of Denver, Inc. was incorporated.

Denver is the capital and most populous city of Colorado. Our school district is the 2nd largest in Colorado. There are approximately 78,000 students (Pre-K--12) enrolled in our schools with approximately 55,000 eligible for free or reduced lunches.  Research indicates a strong need for our service and no other organization in Denver County currently provides the same unique service as Clothes To Kids of Denver, Inc.

Clothes To Kids of Denver, Inc. exists to provide new and quality used clothing to these low income, school-aged children, free of charge, in a store-like setting.  It is our goal to create a welcoming, warm environment. By providing this service, we hope to ease the financial burden placed on these families, build self-esteem in the child and improve their readiness to learn at school.
